FEATURE Outback Almonds

Outback Almonds is a 34Ha working almond farm based in far Western NSW operated by two generations
of the Douglas family. Over the past few years, we have researched options for diversifying our business
away from a purely horticultural operation into something which has alternate revenue streams to better
manage the cyclical nature of farming.
          “
In 2021 we settled on the idea of
using our location on the banks of the
            Darling/Baaka river and the unique
experience of our almond trees as an
            opportunity to establish a tourism,
           accommodation and events business. “

We offer “glamping” style, off grid accommodation
staying in luxurious bell tents with queen beds and
modern décor, with all the modern comforts of home.
We aim to showcase the natural beauty of being
outdoors, soaking in time spent slowly, with the
hassles of setting up and packing up taken care of.

What was bare dirt, or otherwise layered with fallen
bark from nearby box trees, has been transformed
into individual camp sites with luscious green lawn,
fire pit, picnic table and umbrella longing you to
savour the moment. Inside, is fresh crisp linen, with a
Jumbuck quilt and pillow top underlay, lounge chairs,
floor rugs, fire pit essentials, and camp cook wares.
As an add on we provide personalised and unique
dining experiences as part of your Glamping stay,
with the opportunity to dine at sunset where you walk
into your very own outdoor picnic, fully catered with
table cloths, crockery, and all the trimmings, before
getting lost in the Milky Way sitting around the camp
fire, toasting marshmallows; hot chocolate in hand.
Our Glamping is serviced by flushing toilets and hot
showers, which have been built using recycled timber
and tin from an old woolshed on the property.
The Almond trees are in blossom during early August
and we are really excited to be offering our Dining in
the Blossom for 2022 (after our opening show was
cancelled due to Covid lockdown last year). The trees
with their pastel pink blossom look every bit magical
with festoon lights intertwined between branches.
Long trestle tables and chairs will fill the almond rows
for a fully licensed and catered event, with live music.

The almond blossom once fallen, known as “petal fall”
provides a picturesque backdrop resembling a pretty
snow touched field and is a very special moment to
experience. Dining in the Blossom will be held on
        Saturday evening, 13 August.
